Millings

Road milling will begin on June 20 as part of upcoming road work in the area. Residents are asked to use caution around work crews and equipment, and to expect possible delays or temporary traffic disruptions during construction. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while this work is being completed.

This summer, the Village will be adding millings to several roads as part of ongoing maintenance and improvement efforts. Road millings, which are recycled asphalt materials, help create a smoother driving surface while also helping to control dust and improve drainage. This work helps extend the life of the roads and maintain safe travel for residents and visitors throughout the community. Residents may notice maintenance crews working in certain areas, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while this work is completed.

Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) – Frequently Asked Questions

What is RAP?

RAP stands for Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement. It is recycled road material made up primarily of crushed rock with a small percentage of asphalt binder.

Is RAP safe?

Yes. When used in its normal, solid form (as road base or surface material), RAP is considered low risk and safe for public use.

Is it harmful to live near?

No. Once placed and cooled, RAP does not release fumes or pose a health risk to residents.

What about cancer concerns?

The Safety Data Sheet notes that long-term occupational exposure to heated asphalt fumes may pose a possible health risk. This refers to workers exposed to high-temperature asphalt fumes over many years and does not apply to residents living near roads constructed with RAP.

Is it safe for the environment?

Yes, when used properly. The SDS does not identify significant environmental hazards when RAP is

applied as intended. It should not be dumped into waterways or drainage systems.

Is it flammable?

No. RAP has a high flash point and is not easily flammable under normal conditions.

Why does the municipality use RAP?

  • It recycles existing materials
  • It supports sustainable construction practices
  • It is widely accepted in Alberta road construction
  • It provides better accessibility for wheelchairs/walkers
  • It eliminates the need for costly dust control
  • It improves and/or eliminates erosion
  • It lowers maintenance costs

Benches

We are pleased to share that new park benches will be installed at the park in the coming weeks as part of ongoing improvements to our public spaces. These benches will provide additional seating and help create more comfortable areas for residents and visitors to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Dock

Please be advised that the dock will be moved approximately 50 feet further into the water over the coming days to improve usability, accessibility, and overall water access for residents and visitors. This adjustment is being made to provide better docking conditions and improve the experience for everyone using the waterfront area.

During this time, there may be temporary interruptions or limited access around the dock while the work is being completed. We kindly ask residents and boaters to use caution in the area and respect any signage or barriers that may be in place.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve the waterfront amenities for the community.
